Two Marine Oils, c. 1890
Harbour Squall, a Pair
Sold as a pair
These two marine oils belong together because they show the same struggle under different light. In one, illumination breaks through darkness; in the other, a flat grey morning presses down on the water. Both are painted quickly on board, with thin dark passages for the sea and thicker pale paint where light catches. The artist is not yet identified. Their strength is cumulative: seen as a pair, they turn a single boat into a complete passage from night to day.
Sold as a pair. Hang them one above the other, exactly as they were found and you have a whole wall in two nails.
