Two Floral Engravings, 19th century
The Flower Baskets, a Pair
Sold as a pair
These are not idealised flowers arranged at their peak. Peonies crowd the basket, irises push outward and one tulip has already begun to shed its petals. Fine engraved lines hold the abundance together while hand-applied colour gives each bloom its weight. The printmaker has not yet been identified. Framed in gilt against deep green, the pair retains the richness of a formal floral display but also its essential tension: beauty shown at the moment it starts to pass.
Sold as a pair. Stacked one above the other over a console or a chest of drawers, the green mounts do all the work.
