How to Start Buying Art When You Know Nothing About Art

How to Start Buying Art When You Know Nothing About Art

The single rule: buy what you would be happy to look at every morning for ten years. Not what will appreciate, not what a magazine approved of, not what fits above the sofa.

Vintage art makes this easy because the prices are honest. A charming unsigned oil from a French market costs less than a printed canvas from a chain store and it is an original object made by a person.

Condition matters less than you fear. Craquelure, a soft repair, a slightly knocked frame: these are the marks of a thing that has survived and they are why the piece looks alive on your wall.

Ask us anything. Every piece we sell comes with the story of where it was found and why we chose it and we are always happy to talk through a room before you commit.
